Are you a real Christian? What is a Christian?

Are you a real Christian? Is there a precise formula to determine a real Christian? The Epistle of John tells us that Jesus is the word of God. If you like the idea of somebody dying for you, but don't like what the bible (God's word aka Jesus) has to say about a righteous life, you might not be a christian. If there are certain pages or scriptures, you skip quickly so you don't have to feel convicted, you might not be a christian. Being a christian, comes from being born again. That hints at finality of another life now dead. Can you remember the day or moment in your life when you let go of you and reached out in hope to HIM?

Jesus said, "if you love me, you will obey my commandments."

The Ten Commandments are taken from the text in the Old Testament in the books of Exodus, chapter 20, verses 2-17, andDeuteronomy chapter 5: verses 6-21. Here is the short version:

  1. You shall have no other gods before Me.
  2. You shall not make idols.
  3. You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain.
  4. Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.
  5. Honor your father and your mother.
  6. You shall not murder.
  7. You shall not commit adultery.
  8. You shall not steal.
  9. You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.
  10. You shall not covet.

If you love Jesus, you will not be able to commit these sins without conviction. When conviction comes, you will ask for help to overcomethat sin. I want to tell you I would rather sit with sinners, than endure excuses from some that say they are Christians but go against God's word. I intentionally have black and white photos on this blog because there are some absolutes in a relationship with Jesus, and it is black and white. You will notice on the photos, that many have a splash of red. That is for the blood of Jesus.

This is Psalm 101 and I refer to it often as Christianity 101. It was written by king David.

I will sing of your love and justice;
to you, Lord, I will sing praise.
I will be careful to lead a blameless life—
when will you come to me?
I will conduct the affairs of my house
with a blameless heart.
I will not look with approval
on anything that is vile.
I hate what faithless people do;
I will have no part in it.
The perverse of heart shall be far from me;
I will have nothing to do with what is evil.
Whoever slanders their neighbor in secret,
I will put to silence;
whoever has haughty eyes and a proud heart,
I will not tolerate.
My eyes will be on the faithful in the land,
that they may dwell with me;
the one whose walk is blameless
will minister to me.
No one who practices deceit
will dwell in my house;
no one who speaks falsely
will stand in my presence.
Every morning I will put to silence
all the wicked in the land;
I will cut off every evildoer
from the city of the Lord.
